Voice Listen — Hear Vietnamese Pronunciation

Hear Vietnamese Spoken Naturally

Voice Listen is SVFF's text-to-speech feature that reads Vietnamese text aloud with natural Southern Vietnamese pronunciation (giọng miền Nam). All audio on SVFF uses the Southern dialect — the same variety spoken in Ho Chi Minh City and throughout southern Vietnam. It helps you learn correct tones, rhythm, and pronunciation without needing a human teacher present.

Where to Find Voice Listen

Look for the speaker icon (🔊) in these places:

  • Inside the AI Tutor — click the speaker icon on any AI response to hear it read aloud
  • In lessons and courses — listen to example sentences and vocabulary
  • In Practice Scenarios — hear the AI character's responses spoken naturally

Credit Cost

Each time you click the speaker icon, it costs 1.5 AI credits. The audio is generated in real-time with natural Vietnamese pronunciation.

Why Use Voice Listen?

Vietnamese is a tonal language — the same syllable can have 6 different meanings depending on the tone. Reading alone isn't enough; you need to hear the language to learn it properly.

  • Learn the Southern Vietnamese tones — in the Southern dialect, the hỏi (?) and ngã (~) tones merge into one, giving you effectively 5 tones instead of 6. Hear the difference between ma (ghost), mà (but), má (cheek), mả/mã (same tone in the South), and mạ (rice seedling)
  • Improve your accent — listen and repeat to train your mouth and ears
  • Build listening comprehension — hearing natural speech helps you understand Vietnamese speakers in real life
  • Learn pronunciation of new words — don't guess how a word sounds, hear it

Tips for Using Voice Listen Effectively

  1. Listen first, then repeat — play the audio, then say the same phrase out loud. Do this 3-5 times.
  2. Focus on tones — Vietnamese tones are the hardest part for most learners. Pay close attention to the rise and fall of pitch.
  3. Slow down — if a sentence is too fast, ask the AI Tutor to break it into smaller phrases, then listen to each part.
  4. Use it during AI Tutor sessions — when the tutor gives you a Vietnamese example, always click the speaker to hear it.
  5. Practice with scenarios — in Practice Scenarios, listen to the AI character's responses to learn how Vietnamese sounds in real conversations.
