What is SVFF SpeakUp?
SVFF SpeakUp is a speaking practice feature built into the SVFF Learn platform. It gives you real speaking exercises that match the lessons in your SVFF textbook — from basic pronunciation drills in Level 0 all the way to intermediate conversations in Level 2.
Your teacher assigns exercises, you record yourself speaking, and then your teacher (or other students) listen and give you feedback. It's like homework, but for your mouth.
How Does It Work?
- Your teacher assigns an exercise — After your lesson, your teacher sends you a SpeakUp exercise that matches what you studied. You'll get a notification by email, push notification, and in-app alert.
- You open the exercise — Click the link or go to svff.online/speakup and find the exercise. Each one has a slide with instructions and example sentences.
- Record your response — Choose voice or video, hit record, and speak! You can re-record as many times as you want before submitting. You can also upload a pre-recorded file.
- Get feedback — Your teacher listens and leaves voice or text comments. Other students can also comment and support each other.
Where to Find SpeakUp
There are several ways to access SpeakUp:
- Web: Log in to svff.online/speakup — it's in the sidebar menu
- Mobile app: Open the SVFF app and go to the Learn tab — SpeakUp is there
- Notification: When your teacher assigns you an exercise, just tap the notification to open it directly
What Exercises Are Available?
SpeakUp exercises follow the SVFF curriculum:
Level 0 — Southern Vietnamese Pronunciation (8 exercises)
Pure pronunciation practice with no role-play. You'll practise:
- Single vowels (a, i, u, ư, ô, e, ê, ơ) and diphthongs (ia, ua, ưa)
- All 6 Vietnamese tones (ngang, huyền, sắc, hỏi, ngã, nặng)
- Consonants (ch, th, tr, nh, ng, qu) and their spelling rules
- Final consonants (-n, -ng, -m, -t, -c, -p) and Southern dialect rules
- Short vowels (ă, â) and labialized sounds (uy, uê, oa, oe)
Level 1 — Beginner Conversations (12 exercises)
Pronunciation + role-play scenarios for everyday situations:
- Greetings and self-introductions
- Ordering food and drinks
- Talking about family, hobbies, and daily routines
- Shopping and asking for prices
Level 2 — Intermediate Topics (12 exercises)
More complex conversations and real-world scenarios:
- Describing symptoms at the doctor
- Making plans and giving directions
- Talking about your job and career
- Expressing opinions and preferences
More levels are being developed and added regularly.
Recording Tips
- Find a quiet place — background noise makes it harder for your teacher to hear you
- Speak slowly and clearly — especially for pronunciation exercises, don't rush
- Re-record if needed — you can record as many times as you want before submitting
- Use headphones — when listening back to your recording, headphones help you hear the details
- Don't worry about being perfect — the whole point is to practise and improve over time
Voice vs Video
Each exercise lets you choose between:
- Voice recording — audio only, great for pronunciation drills and when you're shy
- Video recording — your teacher can see your mouth shape, which helps with pronunciation feedback
- Text response — some exercises also allow written responses
Your teacher controls which response types are available for each exercise.
Can Other Students Hear My Recording?
Yes — SpeakUp is a community feature. Other students can listen to your recordings and leave supportive comments. This helps everyone learn from each other. Think of it as a speaking practice community, not just homework.
Do I Need Special Equipment?
No! Any device with a microphone works — your phone, laptop, or tablet. Most students find it easiest to record on their phone.
Is SpeakUp Free?
Yes. SpeakUp is included for all SVFF students at no extra cost. As long as you're enrolled with a teacher, you can access all exercises for your level.
