In the question Giám đốc use Được is put after the verb Or a verb phrase To means that You have the ability To do something Let's look at this example If I said Em nói tiếng Anh được Em nói tiếng Anh được That means I can speak English Tiếng Anh English Tiếng is the language You put tiếng before any country And in nationality To means the language Of that country So Tiếng Anh Anh Is English Tiếng Anh English Language So look at the word Được If I say Em nói tiếng Anh được That means I can speak English Em nói tiếng Việt được I can speak Vietnamese Được Can be after the verb phrase Or it can go immediately after the verb For example You can say this Em nói được tiếng Anh Or Em nói tiếng Anh được Both are the same Now listen to giám đốc questions again Em nói tiếng Anh được Em nói tiếng Anh được không? Em nói tiếng Anh được không? So this question means Can you speak English? Em nói tiếng Anh được không? To answer yes to this yes no question You use the word before The word không To say yes So the question is Được không? To answer yes You will say Được If you want to answer no You will say Không được Listen to giám đốc question one more time Em nói tiếng Anh được không? Em nói tiếng Anh được không? Thanh Thúy continues Dạ được Dạ được Giám đốc asks Em học tiếng Anh được mấy năm rồi Mấy năm The original sentence from the dialogue is Em học tiếng Việt được mấy năm rồi So this được is totally different from được we just learned And that's a different grammar point I don't want to talk about that in detail in this lesson Because it's a bit complicated But without được, it has the same meaning If you say em học tiếng Anh được mấy năm rồi And em học tiếng Anh mấy năm rồi Both have the same meaning How many years have you studied English? Listen to giám đọc question one more time Try to repeat if you can Em học tiếng Anh mấy năm rồi So to answer the question mấy Just replace mấy by the number Thanh Thúy answer Dạ, em học tiếng Anh ba năm rồi Em học tiếng Anh ba năm rồi I have learned English for three years Giám đọc continues Em học tiếng Anh ở đâu?
