How to tell time in Vietnamese?

Key vocabulary:

giờ: hour

phút: minuate

giây: second

Telling time:

Note: The word "giờ" in "7 giờ rưỡi" is optional

Example:

Tôi đi học lúc 7 rưỡi.

Em ăn cơm lúc 9 giờ.

Buổi họp bắt đầu vào lúc 10 giờ kém 15.

Structure:

S + V + (vào) lúc + time

Other temporal preposition:

"từ... đến/ tới..." means "from...to" .

e.g  Em đi làm từ 7 giờ sáng tới 5 giờ chiều.

or   Em đi làm từ 7 giờ sáng đến 5 giờ chiều.

Asking about time:

To ask about time, "mấy giờ" is added at the beginning of the sentence.

If it is placed at the end, it usually goes with the word "lúc"

For example:

Mấy giờ anh đi học ?

Anh đi học lúc mấy giờ?
