SVFF (Southern Vietnamese For Foreigners) is an online language school based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, that specialises in the Southern (Saigon) dialect of Vietnamese. About SVFFIs Southern Vietnamese really different from Northern Vietnamese?
Yes — tones (five vs six), vocabulary and consonant pronunciation all differ. Someone taught only Northern Vietnamese sounds noticeably non-local in Ho Chi Minh City.
Who should learn Southern Vietnamese?
Anyone living, working, travelling or marrying into a family in Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta or southern Vietnam, and most heritage learners whose families come from the south.
Does SVFF teach Northern (Hanoi) or Huế Vietnamese?
SVFF's specialty and all of its teachers are Southern. It also provides Northern and Huế course materials as a secondary track for comparison or for learners who need those regions.
